Why At-Home Sessions Feel So Magical (Like This One in a Sunlit Vintage Home)
Some sessions just stay with me—and this one, set inside a sun-soaked vintage home in Vancouver, is one I won’t forget any time soon.
This house had history. The kind that lingers in the light. The couple had lived there years ago, moved away, and then—like a full circle moment—returned to it again, this time as a family of three. That layer of personal story was already humming in the walls, and I could feel it the moment I stepped inside.
The living room was a mix of vintage charm and midcentury modern warmth. A bold yellow couch caught the afternoon light just right. Everything felt so them. Relaxed. Lived in. Familiar. The kind of setting that makes people naturally soften into themselves.
Mom was in a soft blue knit sweater and jeans with little lilac socks—like a sweet throwback to the 90s, in the best possible way. Their baby wore a denim-striped overall and toddled around like he owned the place (and let’s be real, he kind of did). We moved through the home slowly, following their rhythm. No rushing. No over-directing. Just letting the story unfold.
One of my favourite moments? A quiet nursing break on the yellow couch. The light poured through the window and wrapped around them like a warm hug. Those photos—the ones where she’s holding him close, eyes soft, completely in her element—feel like heirlooms already. Honest and beautiful.
Why I Love At-Home Sessions So Much
As a Vancouver motherhood and family photographer, I love working in beautiful outdoor locations—but there’s something different about at-home sessions. Something slower. More personal. More nostalgic.
Your home holds your routines and quirks, your memories and milestones. The bed you cuddle on every morning. The kitchen stool dragged over for “helping.” The window where the light always hits just right. All of that tells your story—your real one.
And when you let me step into that space, magic happens. Not because everything is styled to perfection, but because it’s yours.
These Are the Photos I Wish I Had
If I’m honest, the images I take of mothers in these quiet moments—nursing, laughing, swaying with their babies—I take them because I wish I had them of myself. These are the moments that slip by, but they’re the ones we ache to remember when the years move faster than we expect.
Let’s Document the Season You’re In
If you're drawn to soft light, nostalgic tones, and images that feel like a memory you can hold in your hands, an at-home session might be exactly what you're looking for.
