A Sweet Start to the Day: Candid Motherhood Mini Session in Gastown

There’s something magical about being invited back to photograph a family—like flipping through the next chapter of a story that’s still being written.

This was my second time photographing this lovely mama and her four-year-old daughter, and they kicked off my latest round of motherhood mini sessions in Vancouver with all the heart I could’ve hoped for. It was the first session of the day, held in a beautiful, naturally lit studio in Gastown. The light was soft, the room was calm, and their connection was the kind that instantly quiets the world around it.

They cuddled, danced, smooched each other’s cheeks, and took in the view through the big studio windows—little rituals that probably happen at home all the time, but feel even more sacred when captured in still frames.

Why Motherhood Photos Matter (Even After the Newborn Phase)

These two reminded me why I love photographing motherhood in all its seasons—not just when your belly is round or your baby is brand new.

There’s just as much wonder in the everyday moments:

When your toddler wants to match you.

When you catch them mid-laugh.

When they reach for your hand without even thinking about it.

This age? It flies. And photos like these? They freeze it for you.

Let’s Document This Chapter, Too

Every season of motherhood deserves to be documented—not just maternity and newborn. Whether your little one is four weeks or four years old, these moments are full of love, chaos, giggles, and gold. You don’t have to wait for a “perfect” time—because real life is the perfect time.
